Student Affairs & Networking
Welcome to the School of Humanities’ Division of Student Affairs & Networking. The Division looks after both student affairs (non-academic) and networking (with Industry & Community) in the school. While maintaining the school’s core functions of teaching and research, our Division expands its functions into student affairs related to non-academic pursuits (e.g. field visits, outreach, student clubs, cultural activities, etc.) and networking with industry (e.g. staff exchange/internships, student placements/internships, joint research & other collaborations) and community (e.g. university-community engagement [UCE], community outreach, community research/projects, etc.). In line with Universiti Sains Malaysia’s APEX agenda, our Division promotes UCE activities and encourages our staff and students to volunteer for UCE activities/programmes. We are always looking for smart-partnerships with staff/faculties, student bodies and other colleagues across USM to promote and carry out joint projects within our scope. For our students, the Division of Student Affairs and Networking offers a wide range of diverse high quality and meaningful projects/programs/activities specially designed to enhance their university experience from their first day in USM through to their graduation day and beyond (After graduation, students can continue to network with us as members of USM’s Alumni to enjoy being life-long members of USM’s family). For our staff, we can assist them by match-making them with industry and community networks, assist them to apply for an external grant or internal BJIM Research Grant that relates to either industrial or community engagement, and advise them on maximising their skills/expertise for voluntary societal activities that make their academic life more useful and meaningful.
The Division of Student Affairs & Networking will endeavour to help make both staff and students’ time in USM as rewarding, enjoyable and meaningful as possible. Whether you are a staff, student or visitor, we welcome any ideas that you have and would like to work with you. Or if you experience any difficulties/problems, we are here to help. Please do not hesitate to come and talk to us. We will try our best to help you get the help/assistance you need. Whether you’re looking for academic, social, cultural, physical or career-related support, we encourage you to take advantage of all that our Division has to offer. We are here to help you succeed in both your academic pursuit as well as your personal development.
